The AORN Nurse Scientist Specialty Assembly is seeking volunteers to join our leadership team!

There are two ways you can participate:

  • Run for an elected position on the ballot to strategically guide the specialty assembly. Elected positions include Chair elect (3-year term), Education Chair (2-year term), and Professional Practice Chair (2-year term)
  • Join a committee: Education, Professional Practice, Communications to share your talents with the specialty assembly

  • The Ballot will open for voting March 10-29th, 2025

AORN NSSA Position and Terms:

Position

Description of role

Term

Chair

Preside at all Specialty Assembly leadership and membership meetings.

2. Serve as the official representative of the Specialty Assembly.
3. Maintain direct communication with AORN Board Liaison(s).
4. Serve as a resource/liaison to all Task Forces.
5. Serve as a Mentor
6. Share information regarding Specialty Assembly activities to members
7. Appoints replacement Chair vacancies after consultation with the Chair-Elect and Past Chair.
8. Serve as Past Chair

Chair-Elect

 Assist Chair with duties as directed in preparation for assuming the duties and responsibilities of the office of Chair the following year.

Past Chair

Assists the role of chair and other SA roles. Mentor role

 

1 year

Communications Chair

Gather and disseminate information to the SA membership.

Responsibilities:

1.     Gather and report information pertinent to practice/issues.
2. Acts as Web Facilitator for Specialty Assembly.
3. Collaborate with other members of the SA about content to be posted to Nursing Network
4. Post reports on leadership meetings and activities to newsletter and web pages, including social media
5. Review/Update Nursing Network page appropriately.
6. Record and transcribe minutes at all SA leadership meetings and distribute members as appropriate.

 

2 years

Professional Development/

Education Chair

Coordinate efforts to assess, study, discuss and exchange information pertinent to educational issues and activities.

 

Responsibilities:
1. Assist with planning and implementing educational activities based on the needs of the Assembly
2. Solicit session proposals/Conduct peer review of upcoming educational sessions
3. Facilitate webinar process
4. Act as a resource to the members of the Specialty Assembly regarding their educational needs.

 

2 year

The Professional Practice/Issues Chair

Explore practice issues and concerns identified by the membership. They will study, research, and exchange information.

 

Responsibilities:
1. Responds to practice issues identified by the SA membership.
2. Study, research, and exchange information on issues pertinent to their field.
3. Work collaboratively with AORN National Legislative Forum and AORN staff on legislative activities at state and federal levels.
4. Serve as legislative resource for the membership.
